We take this time out from the trek to report on Ariel

Ariel, our nine year old greyhound, is not doing very well. Last Thursday, I could not sleep. So at about 4:30 a.m., I came downstairs and started to walk around the lower story to get a few steps in for the day. Ariel, as she often does, followed me downstairs. When she came downstairs, however, she stood like a statue, unwilling to move. She stayed in that position for about 20 minutes and then finally went back upstairs.

Over the weekend, she became increasingly weak. She stopped eating. She yelped from pain, even when she was laying on the ground. She had a lot of trouble walking up the stairs. We think that she might have had a seizure over the night.

We took her to the vet today. At the vet's, she had another seizure. The vet shot her up with the anti-seizure medication. The vet has given us some pain medication. The hope is that the pain medication will assist Ariel in eating and getting her strength back. If not, we are going to have to let her go.

We are preparing for the worst.
