I went out this morning and walked. Well, actually, I woke up and debated with myself about whether I would walk this morning. After a half an hour, I decided that I would be happier if I walked so I would not have to walk at night after work. So I walked, and completed more than half my steps by 6:30 a.m. I finished the rest of the steps during the day. So tonight, I was able to come home, put up my feet, and watch the All Star Game and read with my feet on the coffee table not feeling the least bit guilty. Plus, it is hot out tonight, but I am sitting under the fan.
I became a baseball fan at age 7. My father took me to my first professional game that year. It was a Friday night game where the Giants played the Astros at Candlestick Park. My sister Holly came with me. A big man with his family sat next to us. The man was smoking a big cigar. The Astros pitcher hit a couple of Giants with pitches. The man yelled, Throw the bum pitcher out. My sister made me move to sit next to the cigar smoking, loud yelling man. I didn't mind; I was in heaven. Plus the Giants won, 6-1.
I have now found the box score of that game. It happened on May 12, 1967. Juan Marichal pitched a complete game. Willie Mays hit a home run. Joe Morgan and Rusty Staub played for the Astros. Here's the complete box score of one of the great nights in my life:
